For my studio still life, I selected a few random objects from my kitchen. These include a spaghetti strainer, a ceramic cup, a dish towel, a lid for a plastic cup, and a plastic spoon and spatula. The objects are meant to evoke the comfort and memories of a place where everyone is familiar with: the kitchen. The arrangement of the objects is different in each picture. I first kept the plastic spatula and spoon lying down flat in the foreground, then I began to place them hanging off the strainer to create some interesting diagonals. I also moved around the dish towel and the plastic cup lid, but kept the strainer and the ceramic cup in the same place in each shot, the strainer on the left side of the display and the cup on the right. The shots originally had a very strong yellow light, but I edited most of the yellow out of the photos, still keeping a tint of it for a softer, comforting feel. You can see the light reflecting off the metal part of the strainer, especially in the third photo, and some interesting shadows can be seen stretching off the objects. In the studio, I placed a strong light source to the left of the objects, creating the interesting shadows. This light source also created the powerful yellow light which I hadn't become fond of until I made some edits to make it less intense. For my found still lives, I found each cluster of objects in several places around my bedroom. The first was in the top shelf of my wardrobe, the second on top of my clothes drawers, and the third in one of my art drawers. When naturally arranging my things, I keep them in tight groups or stacks to make room and create space for when I want to place other things in that spot, and I found this a lot through my whole room. The books and other objects in my wardrobe are stacked and pushed off to the side, the bottles of perfume and lotions are kept in a tight cluster, and my craft supplies in my drawer fit together like a puzzle. In all three pictures, the light source tends to come directly in front of or on the objects. Shadows can be seen within the clusters between the objects, such as how the perfume bottles and basket in the front of the second picture cast shadows on the lotion bottles behind them. The lighting in these pictures was originally much darker due to the time of day, but I edited them in photoshop to make the lighting brighter and less yellow from the light source. I feel that these pictures narrate my daily life and showcase objects that hold some sort of significance for me. My room is the place where I reside in each day and keep the objects that are most dear to me, and each object within it brings out the vivid memories that I could never forget.
