For my reflection I chose my first shadow picture. I shot this photo early in the morning, around 9:00 am. The photo is of the shadow created by the railing on some playground equipment at Pierce Beach. The sunlight is coming from the back of the object and is casting the shadow in the front of the railing. The photo is using the rule of thirds with the wooden bars in the foreground, splitting the photo into thirds where they hit the edge of the photograph. The positive space is made by the wooden bars in the rail as well as the bars in the foreground, while the negative space can be seen in between the bars and off to the left side of the photo. Line is created in the photograph from the vertical and diagonal bars and their shadows, and they also create rectangular shapes. There is also pattern with the repeating rectangular shapes in the bars as well as in the shadow, and also some texture can be seen in the wood. The shadow in my image adds some intrigue to my work by creating a perfect reflection of the shape of the wooden planks above it. The shadows is sharp, and in the composition of the image, it almost looks like an object itself rather than just a shadow.
