My final photo essay assignment depicts the beautiful nature scenes at Walden Pond. I chose this topic because I've always felt an attraction to the gorgeous scenery of the natural world. On my field trip to Walden Pond, I came across many of these stunning scenes which I had the pleasure of capturing with my camera, containing beautiful saturated colors and interesting compositions. Through this topic, I hope to capture both the beauty of scenes created by the natural world alone as well as man's influence within it. Most of the pictures, such as the pinecone, the white flowers, the trail of rocks leading to the ocean, and the two trees depict parts of nature which show no influence by man, while pictures such as the railroad tracks, the letters carved in the tree, the piles of stones and the wooden stairs show instances of man's influence within nature. In the book I created for my photo essay, I arranged the photos in a way that lead your eye through the photos, putting the photos that lead your eye to the right at the beginning (i.e. the pond with the bushes to the left, the railroad tracks, the pinecone), and puttin photos that lead your eye to the left at the end of the book (i.e. the edge of the pond along the sand, the rock path). For the composition of the photos, I kept with using the rule of thirds, and each photo has some edge lying on a third. Each picture was taken between morning and afternoon in broad daylight, creating bright lighting for each photo. The photos are visually unified because since they were all taken in the same place at the same time of day, they all have the same color scheme of blue, green and brown. Having the same colors in each photo cause them to fit together perfectly and create a unified photo set.
