For my portrait emulation assignment, I chose a photograph by Alex Prager. Alex Prager was born in Los Angeles and became a self-taught photographer in her early 20's. Inspired by the photograhy of William Eggleston, she has been recognized for both her photography and film-making. The photograph I chose by her depicts a woman sitting in the passenger's seat of a car. She is leaning over the driver's seat and the photograph is taken from an upward angle, creating an interesting perspective. There is also an unusual light source coming from behind the girl and illuminating her hair. To emulate this photograph, I had my friend sit in my car and I took the photo from outside the car so that the door frame frames the picture like in Pragers photo. My photo is also taken at an upwards angle, though not as dramatic, and my friend also wore similar clothes and makeup. Both photos are also illuminated by a natural light source, although my photo's light comes from the left rather than from directly behind. These qualities of both photos make them similar without making them identical.
