For my Point of View/Favorite Thing assignment, I chose to photograph my violin. Playing the violin is something I really enjoy doing, and my violin is important to me because it allows me to express myself through music. I photographed my violin first at a full front view, then a close-up of the face, a close-up of the bridge, pegs and chin rest, then low-level view of the side of the instrument, an ants view of the neck, and finally an aerial view of the scroll down the neck. For the close-up pictures I used the macro setting, which focused on the details of the object and blurred the background to make them less distracting. I also photographed the object on a plain white bed sheet with no distracting patterns to keep the focus solely of the violin. To create an appealing composition in each photo, I did my best to follow the rule of thirds, avoiding photographing/cropping anything exactly in the center. The blurring backgrounds of the close-up pictures creates depth of field and contributes to the composition as well.
